Antenna Trail Hike

The fourth annual May Days Antenna Trail hike is a must for the outdoor enthusiast: a couple of hours of gorgeous Beaver Valley / Columbia Valley scenery. It’s a moderate hike with some steep sections, but suitable for the family. Take your time to enjoy the views and sign in at the Flag Viewpoint to tell the world you have reached the top. Meet at the trail head in Montrose at 12th Avenue and 4th Street, for an 8:00 am Saturday kick off, or hike on your own time. For more information phone Art at 250-367-7504. Beaver Valley Major Baseball Tournament

Beaver Valley Baseball will run a major tournament in McInnis Park this year. This is for boys and girls 11 to 13 years old. Games run from Friday night to Sunday afternoon. Call Michele or Kevin at 250-367-6654 or email mihas@telus.net.

Beaverian Gardens

Beaver Valley’s version of the beer garden is located in the covered area near the concession and Haines Park ball field. Beer and coolers can be purchased and enjoyed rain or shine. We’ll be there for you during the party-in-the-park Saturday night. No minors are allowed within the fenced area.

The gardens will run this year Saturday 11:00-8:00 and Sunday 11:00-6:00.

Beaver Races

Squares will be sold by First Beaver Valley Scouting members for $2 each. Each square is numbered and has a matching “Beaver Block”.  The blocks will be floated down Beaver Creek on Sunday at 2 pm. Whatever numbered block goes under the walkway bridge by the school first, will be declared the winner of $300. For early sales contact Heather at 250-367-7453.

Bingo organized by the BV Lions Club

Bingo is back. Hear your numbers come up at the Curling Rink on Saturday, May 25 from 1:30 to 4:30. For more information email Norm at not–norm–al@hotmail.com.

Bocce

Participants wanted for fun tournament. This social event with two-person teams is made up of men, women or children in any combination. A modest entry fee will be charged and distributed to winners in two or three events. It will start 12:00 Sunday in front of the former middle school. Burgers

The Alliance Church team headed by The Twins Catering will be back cooking burgers for us. The concession has soft drinks, ice cream treats, chips and candy. Our two venders are back, Confusion Tacos and Skewers. Trail Rotary will be selling popcorn. This event happens Saturday and Sunday 11:15-6:00.

Church Service

Who will it be this year? Be at the curling rink Friday night at 6:30 pm to help a very worthy person or couple celebrate their achievement. A reception will follow and everyone is welcome. For information call Sera at 250-367-7628.

Church Service. Sunday Morning

Pastor Bryan Henry of Fruitvale Christian Fellowship would like to welcome everyone to a community service at the park starting at 9:30. With participation from our local Churches we look forward to a great time with live music to follow the service.

Concession

The concession is located next to the burger kitchen. The Champion Lakes Ladies’ Golf Club members will be selling the usual faire of soft drinks, chips, ice cream and candy.

Dig Dirt Day

Following the parade, the Village of Fruitvale will celebrate Local Government Week by having Village equipment on display in the BV arena parking lot. There will also be a huge pile of sand, toy equipment, hard hats and other surprises for little kids to build roads or whatever their imagination allows.

Family Run/Walk

Fireworks

One of the most-attended events during May Days, the FVFD never fails to amaze. Although it is visible throughout the greater Fruitvale area, the best viewing still happens at the park. We have glo-sticks for sale as well as Confusion Taco, Skewers and Rotary popcorn available to control the munchies. Start time is about 9:30 Friday.

Geocaching

This is a new activity for May Days very popular among snowbirds in the U.S. “Caches” will be hidden around greater Fruitvale and your job is to find them with a GPS device, get a stamp from each and report back to the starting point for discussion and prizes. This event will be on Sunday and the start time is 11:00 – meet at the concession. Call 250-367-7691.

Kiddie Cars

This unique attraction has been at May Days for generations. The cars will run Friday night from 5:00 to about 7:30, Saturday from 1:00 to 5:00 and Sunday from 11:00 to 4:00.

Kids’ Carnival and Imagination Station

Carnival stations located in the arena from 1:00 to 4:00 will include bounce toys, basketball toss, fish pond, softball toss, pop-the-balloon, beaver tails, slushies, cotton candy and popcorn. When you enter the carnival, buy a passport for $5.00. Have your passport stamped as you travel to each station then turn it in and collect a prize at the prize table near the entrance. Ladies Frying Pan Toss

Sunday at 12:00 pm is the now-famous frying pan toss for women young and old. If this sounds like a challenge for you, sign up on Saturday or Sunday. Signup sheets will be at the concession.

Liberty Foods Hot Dog Event

Liberty Foods is supplying wieners and buns and the BV Recreation department is serving hot dogs and soft drinks Friday night from 5:00 to about 7:30 for a loonie each.

The Market

Parade

The parade starts from the firehall and travels on Columbia Gardens Road to the curling rink Saturday at 12:00. The end of the parade signals the beginning of great times in the park. For entry information call 250-367-2214.

Parade Luncheon

Following the parade all participants are invited to a luncheon hosted by Fruitvale Christian Fellowship at the curling rink.

Rotary Barbecue

Tender beef and delicious sausages cooked expertly on an open barbecue and loaded onto fresh buns garnished with fried onion, horseradish, ketchup or mustard are a May Days must. Available from 11:00 to about 4:00 Saturday and Sunday.

Seniors’ Tea

Held Friday from 1:00 to 3:00, the Friends of the Library hosts a tea with delicious baking for any seniors (and others) that want to attend.

Showcase of Performing Arts

This event’s organizers want to provide entertainment from 1:00 Saturday on into the evening then again from the end of the church service Sunday to late afternoon. If you are a performer, please call Danielle at 250-367-6233 for more information.

Slo-Pitch

A May Days tradition that runs from Friday night to Sunday night. Two divisions are available. First for family, business or fun teams and second for competitive teams. For more information and to register, call Paul or Nicole at 250-367-9794

Three-on-Three Street Hockey

Held in the sport court below FES, this is a great venue with three surfaces divided by barriers. Kids of all ages are invited to play and there’s a 16-and-up adult category. Lots of draws and prizes. Only $10 per person. To register by May 13, please call 250-367-6316. Fun, fun, fun.

Texas Hold’em Poker

The fifth annual Texas Hold’em poker tournament is back on Saturday, May 25 at the Beaver Valley Curling Club at 7:00 pm.Tickets are available at the Petro-Can in downtown Fruitvale for $40.00 each. There are only 100 tickets for sale. Phone Al Plamondon 367-6543.

Train Rides supplied by Nelson & Ft. Sheppard Railway Co. Ltd.

Nelson & Ft. Sheppard Railway Co. Ltd. train rides will be available Saturday only. The route starts at the pole yard and takes passengers on a 45-minute ride to the bridge overlooking Beaver Falls. Reservations are recommended. The first train leaves at 9:45 then 10:30, 1:00, 1:50, 2:40 and 3:30. Call Dianne at 250-367-9559.

Vendors will Enhance your Eating Enjoyment

This year we are experimenting with expanding our food service by inviting outside vendors. We have two confirmed: Skewers from Castlegar serving Greek wraps, gyros, donairs and tornado potato skewers; and Confusion Taco from Salmo serving tacos and more. Their mobile restaurants will be located in Haines park and open Friday night from about 5:00 to after the fireworks, Saturday from about noon to closing and possibly Sunday.

Watermelon Eating Contest

Sunday at 2:00 the messiest event welcomes all competitors to gulp down all the watermelon they can in a prescribed time.
